KU offers winter 2025 study abroad in London – Keystone Newspaper Student Publishing Group

KU students have the opportunity to study abroad in London from Dec. 26, 2024 – Jan. 12, 2025.

The study abroad program will offer two courses: WRI 108: Creative Writing with Professor Jeffrey Voccola and INT 101: Intercultural Communication with Dr. Brenda Muzeta. 

The official course descriptions are as follows: 

WRI 108: Creative Writing with Professor Jeffrey Voccola:

This course provides a decidedly British introduction to creative writing in the genres of fiction, poetry, and drama, creative nonfiction, and nonfiction. Students will craft original creative works and revise based on critique and theoretical study of the writing process. Students will also read and analyze published works of poetry, fiction, drama, and nonfiction to serve as models for their own writing. 

INT 101: Intercultural Communication with Dr. Brenda Muzeta:

This course explores the nature of interaction among peoples who hold different values and assumptions. It emphasizes the analytic and comparative study of human communication in multi-ethnic London England in order to facilitate the learning of skills and techniques essential for for every KU major to engage successful cross-cultural interaction. We’ll spend time exploring the interrelationships of society, culture, language and communication.

Both classes are open to all students and have no prerequisites. 

Students will stay in the Ridgemount Hotel, located in Bloomsbury. Students will live within close proximity to University College London, the British Library, and the British Museum. 

Other places typically visited by tour groups include Hyde Park, The Tower of London, Big Ben, Stonehenge, and Oxford University, among many others.
